Luxury Patio Furniture: Is It Worth The Extra Money?

There are so many places to choose from when it comes to shopping for patio furniture and accessories. Many people choose the convenience of big box stores such as Home Depot, Lowes, Wal-Mart, Kohl’s or Target, but what they don’t take into consideration is, the long term value. Convenience is just an easy, quick fix for an immediate reward in our busy life’s, but often times going that extra mile, and spending a little more will actually save you time and money later on.

Long Term

You can think of luxury patio furniture as a long term relationship. They are built to last for many years, through all of your life events; raising kids, family-get-togethers, parties, moving houses and years of harsh weather conditions. Luxury outdoor patio furniture is what that will be around when you no longer are, passed on to your children and taking residence in their homes.  Big box patio furniture on the other hand, typically has a 2 to 3 year life span. After 20 years and the 10th patio set later, you have spent close to triple the price of one high-end collection.

Warranties

Places like Target and Home Depot lack in the area of warranties. They either don’t offer a warranty, like Target and JCPenney, or offer only a small, one-year-warranty, like Home Depot and Kohl’s.  One-year-warranties are great for products that will not see a lot of wear and tear but outdoor patio furniture must live through a variety of different weather conditions. Direct sunlight, heavy, prolonged rain, strong winds and many times even hail.

Spring Training 2013

Spring Training

Have you gotten out and supported your favorite baseball team yet this spring training season? There is a good chance your team practices right here in Phoenix, Arizona. Half of the Major League Baseball’s 30 teams have their preseason training in and around the Phoenix area.

In fact, Arizona has a long history of being a popular destination spot for spring training baseball, and who wouldn’t want to play here in the spring? The weather is perfect and the sun is always shining!

With Arizona’s Cactus League in its 67th season it continues with its long traditions however it isn’t to say that nothing has changed! Much like everything else it continues to evolve and grow,  bringing record high attendance rates in both 2009 and 2010 adding more than $360 million to our local economy each year. Just since 2003 the Cactus League has added five ballparks with another on the way due to open in 2014. So who is the newest member of the Cactus League going to be? The Chicago Cubs!  The coolest part? The brand new training center will be at Riverside Park and is being designed to mirror the Chicago’s historic home park, Wrigley Field.

As more and more stadiums are being built, the Cactus League continues to expand into other areas of the Valley including Peoria Sports Complex in 1994, home of the San Diego Padres; Goodyear Ballpark In 2009, home of the Cleveland Indians; Surprise Stadium in 2003, home of the Kansas Royals and the Texas Ranger.

2013 Outdoor Living Trends

Even though we are only one month into 2013 there are some trends that we already see forming for spring and summer in the luxury patio furniture industry. Extending your living space to the outdoors has been an upward trend for years now and is only becoming more and more popular. As people, every year, start to spend more time and effort into their outdoor living space, the demand for certain outdoor products are on the rise! Here are a few of the trends for outdoor living in 2013!

1) Durability

  • Durability and longevity are two deemed as two of the important factors when it comes to anything for your outdoor living space. People dislike when they purchase “nice things” to find out a year later they’re not as nice as they thought.

2) Custom

  • Consumers like to know that they are part of the design process, even if that simply means picking out fabric. Having the ability to have a say in how their new patio furniture or decor is huge to consumers this year. No one wants to have the same patio collection as their neighbor.

3) Covered Patios

  • More and more homeowners are starting to utilize their outdoor living space; many are turning to covered patios. Covered patios are great for a few reasons, first off they protect you from the elements of weather. Covered patios can also be great with the appropriate fire pit and the correct roof. As heat raises, the roof catches it, allowing the warmth to stay around for a longer period of time. Before you decided to place a fire pit under your covered patio, make sure it is the right kind of fire pit and that your roof is high enough that you avoid any fire hazards. Another trend for 2013 is bringing your entertainment, outdoors and covered patios allow you to do so without the worry of rain ruining your electronics.

4) Fire pits 

  • Low maintenance fire pits are in this year. Instead of trying to start a roaring fire for 30 minutes, why not flip a switch to your gas powered fire pit and enjoy right away! Convince isn’t the only reason gas fire pits are trending this season, but also because they are not as much of an eye sore like your typical wood burning fire pit. Gas fire pits easily fit right into your decor with many styles and colors to choose from.

5) Decor 

  • No more neglecting your outdoor decor! Why not have a lamp on your patio, or a outside wall decoration! People are catching on this year that items such as lamps, rugs, table decorations and pretty wall art, are not just for the indoors, but for the outdoors as well!
